On our October 2025 trip to Universal Orlando, we picked up an interactive wand and went hunting for spell spots. Every location is marked by a bronze medallion set into the ground: stand on it, copy the wand motion engraved on it, and the window in front of you does the rest. We filmed our casts as we found them, and each video below has a golden trace drawn over it that follows the exact wand motion, so you can learn the move before you go.
Alohomora, the unlocking charm
Where: The Flourish and Blotts window in Diagon Alley, Universal Studios Florida, where a copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard sits locked behind the glass.
The motion: Trace a full circle with your wand, then cut one diagonal slash through it, the way the engraving shows. Think of it as drawing a keyhole and turning the key.
What happens: The book unlocks and swings open to reveal a hidden scene from The Fountain of Fair Fortune, one of Beedle’s tales, glowing inside the pages. It can take a couple of attempts to land the motion just right. That is part of the fun.
Watch it happen:
Aberto
Where: Pilliwinkle’s Playthings, Horizont Alley, Diagon Alley.
The motion: follow the golden trace in the video, which draws the exact path the medallion shows.
What happens: the stage curtains in the toy shop window open, and a little troll marionette dances.
Wingardium Leviosa
Where: two spots, Scribbulus in Diagon Alley and Spintwitches Sporting Needs in Hogsmeade.
The motion: the classic swish and flick, engraved on the medallion.
At Scribbulus:
What happens: the great white feather quill in the window rises and floats above the parchment.
At Spintwitches:
What happens: the Quidditch balls in the display case stir and lift.
Descendo & Ascendio
Where: Gladrags Wizardwear, Hogsmeade.
The motion: Descendo is a downward loop, Ascendio a rising hook.
What happens: the measuring tape draped on the robe in the window rises with Ascendio and sinks back down with Descendo.
Locomotor Snowman
Where: Madam Puddifoot’s Tea Shop, Hogsmeade.
The motion: follow the path engraved on the medallion; the golden trace in the video draws it for you.
What happens: the snowman on top of the cake in the window comes alive and dances.
Revelio
Where: Honeydukes, Hogsmeade.
The motion: the sweep engraved on the medallion; the golden trace in the video draws it for you.
What happens: the lid of the giant Chocolate Frog box lifts, the frog inside is revealed, and the lid settles back down.
Incendio
Where: Zonko’s Joke Shop, Hogsmeade.
The motion: follow the golden trace in the video, which draws the exact path the medallion shows.
What happens: the fireworks in the window, rockets and spinning pinwheels, flare alight as if the whole display is about to go off.
Locomotor & Arresto Momentum
Where: Dervish and Banges, Hogsmeade.
The motion: follow the golden trace in the video, which draws the exact path the medallion shows.
What happens: the little dragon flies around the model Hogwarts in the window case with Locomotor, and Arresto Momentum brings it to a stop.
Rennervate
Where: The Triwizard stage area, Hogsmeade.
The motion: follow the golden trace in the video, which draws the exact path the medallion shows.
What happens: the dueling dummy on the Triwizard stage comes back to life.
Lumos Solem
Where: Dogweed and Deathcap, Hogsmeade.
The motion: follow the golden trace in the video, which draws the exact path the medallion shows.
What happens: sunlight blooms across the plant window.
